Wow, This one’s a reach…

Ridgemont High’s Spicolli (Sean Penn) to play Einstein in an upcoming movie?  Nope, I’m not kidding about this one folks.

Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn may wind up portraying legendary physicist Albert Einstein for a joint U.S.-Italian TV film production.

Penn, 46, is reportedly interested in working with writer/director Liliana Cavani, the Italian news agency ANSA reported Tuesday.

The project is a joint effort between the U.S. premium cable TV network HBO and Italy’s RAI state broadcaster, ANSA said.

An RAI spokesman said Penn appears enthusiastic about the project.

“He’s read the screenplay and he likes it,” RAI’s Agostino Sacca told ANSA.

Penn’s latest film, “All the Kings Men,” opens Friday in U.S. theaters amid the fact that it was considered a yawner at the Toronto Film Fest.  Festival attendees said it wouldn’t get play on Lifetime Television had it not been Spicolli playing the lead part.

Sean Penn playing Einstein is like Pee Wee Herman playing our nations father, George Washington.  I gotta see this one.  Not at the theatre though, I think I’ll wait for it to be released on video and then borrow it from one of my liberal do gooder friends.
