In last month’s issue of Foreign Policy magazine, leading analyst and Iraq War supporter Walter Russell Mead opined that President Obama’s foreign policy agenda was turning into a duplicate of Jimmy Carter’s.
The former president penned a 1,500-word letter to the editor complaining about the article’s treatment of his foreign policy legacy. That’s followed by a second letter to the editor from Zbigniew Brzezinski, his national security adviser.
Both delve into an issue-by-issue defense of various Carter actions: whether it was relations with China, peace talks in the Middle East, a renewed emphasis on human rights in Africa, the strengthening of NATO and even the hostage crisis in Iran.
“I won’t criticize or correct his cute and erroneous oversimplistic distortions of presidential biographies and history except when he refers specifically to me,” Carter writes. “I resent Mead’s use of such phrases as ‘in the worst scenario, turn him [Obama] into a new Jimmy Carter,’ ‘weakness and indecision,’ and ‘incoherence and reversals’ to describe my service. An especially aggravating error is his claiming, ‘by the end of his tenure he was supporting the resistance to the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, increasing the defense budget, and laying the groundwork for an expanded U.S. presence in the Middle East.’ None of these were late decisions based on a tardy realization of my earlier errors and misjudgments.”
Surrounded by corrupt and incompetant people who are advising him. He may be a brilliant speaker with a teleprompter but is a stuttering idiot when speaking off the cuff. The man does not have the ability or experience to govern.
I have witnessed Presidents come and go in my 44 yrs and he is by far the worst I have seen, worse then Carter and I remember what a cowardly schmuck he was.
He is allowing assholes like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to govern our country while he runs around the world making a mockery of the United States bowing, apologizing and making himself and America look weak. He is out of touch with the Majority of Citizens in this country and has no respect for our Nation, it’s beliefs and our Flag.
Washington, D.C. (October 14, 2008) — Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) Executive Director Matt Brooks issued the following statement today on remarks made by Jesse Jackson: “Jesse Jackson confirmed the Jewish communities long-standing concerns with Barack Obama’s policies on Israel and the Middle East,” said Brooks.
As reported by the New York Post, Jackson said at the World Policy Conference last week, that Obama would bring “fundamental changes” to US foreign policy in the Middle East. The Post also reported that Jackson said, “‘decades of putting Israel’s interests first would end. Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades would lose a great deal of their clout when Barack Obama enters the White House.”
Obama national campaign co-chairman Gen. Tony McPeak echoed Jackson’s sentiments in a 2003 interview with The Oregonian. McPeak said progress had not been made in the Middle East peace process because of the Jewish community in New York City and Miami. “We have a large vote — vote, here in favor of Israel. And no politician wants to run against it,” said McPeak.
“That those with such virulent anti-Semitic and anti-Israel views support an Obama presidency continues to be deeply troubling to the Jewish community. It highlights why Obama continues to have problems in the Jewish community,” said Brooks.
